Help shape the future of Portraits of Recovery
DEADLINE EXTENDED: Wednesday 30 April
Portraits of Recovery is the UK’s leading visual arts charity inspiring and supporting people and communities in recovery from substance use (Recoverists).
We invite people in recovery from substance use to join us in establishing a Recoverist Union. The Union will serve as a programme advisory group and help inform the future development of a volunteer’s scheme. The first of its kind, we need your help, skills and experience in shaping relationships between substance use, recovery, and the arts and culture.
Recoverist Union members will:
- Meet four times a year (early evening), on a voluntary basis, to contribute their knowledge and experience
- Inform/shape our public programmes, organisational vision, mission, values
- Champion the arts/culture for social change, specifically for recovery communities.
- Nominate a member to sit on our Board of Trustees
We are looking for people who have:
- Lived experience of recovery
- Strong interest in arts and culture
- Be willing to commit to our organisational values
- A minimum of 1 year of sobriety/clean time
Benefits include:
- Gaining experience of being on a managerial board.
- Learning from communications, arts & culture professionals
- Tickets to our events and have a chance to network at VIP launch parties.
- Influencing our public programs and long-term vision.
- Championing arts & culture for social change.
No former experience is necessary; just a passion for the arts and a prolonged period of recovery from substance use.
To apply please email an expression of interest and include:
- A bit about yourself
- Why you want to join the Recoverist Union
- What skills, knowledge and experiences you can bring
We’re committed to reflecting the communities in which we work. So, we actively welcome expressions of interest from people with lived experience, disabled people, people from the global majority, and people from the LGBTQIA+ community.
Email your expression of interest to Dominic Pillai.
